Captain

If you love being around people and boats, then this job is for you! Our captains are responsible for ensuring the safety of the vessel, passengers and crew. While we expect our captains to have a professional demeanor, they must also be willing to laugh, engage in conversation, and explain what they're doing while running the boat. During our public cruises, captains present our prepared narration materials in an entertaining and informative manner. The captain, along with the crew, will be responsible for preparing the boat before the cruise and cleaning it afterwards.

Captains are the first point of contact with our customers. They identify maintenance and safety issues and take steps to report and correct them. Captains assist with pre and post-season maintenance; fueling, cleaning and other maintenance projects when there is down time. Captains must know and comply with all company policies and procedures regarding safety, security and emergencies. Captains can expect to work between 10 and 35 hours per week depending on their availability and our cruise schedule.

Qualifications:
We're looking for people with excellent interpersonal skills who can work both independently and as part of a team. Captains should have experience operating small boats. Successful applicants must be reliable and able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes stressful environment. We expect careful attention to detail. Captains will work a flexible schedule including nights, weekends and holidays.

Familiarity and experience with Lake Mendota and/or Lake Monona is a big plus. Experience with boat maintenance is another plus. You must be fluent in English and be honest, dependable and forthright. You must hold a valid driver's license. Captains must be able to complete an approved CPR/First Aid course.
